An International Symposium for Cultural Corridors
9 February 2007, Boyana Residence

The international symposium was organized by the national Association “Balkan Heritage” with the cooperation of UNESCO – CEPES, the Council of Europe and the National commission for UNESCO and the support of the Cain for youth tourism “Orbita” and DVV-International.

On February 9th in Boyana Residence were gathered historians, researchers, archaeologists, museum experts, tourism representatives, and teachers. The President, the Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin and the Culture Minister Stefan Danailov’s welcoming speeches were carried out in front of UNESCO’s representatives, the Council of Europe and 159 participants from Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Albania, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland.

In plenary reports and in discussions in both theme panels were debated a number of theoretical problems related to the development of the cultural corridors’ notions, the opportunities of their creation, the character of the prepared pilot projects. Particular attention was paid to the ideas for education and youth tourism. Specific presentations underlined the need for more attractive partnership in training specialists in tourism and history teaching. The work of DVV - International in Bulgaria was presented by Ms Maria Todorova and the work in the Balkan region was presented using the example of the History Project, shared by its coordinator, Ms Vanya Ivanova.

The materials from the conference will be published with the help of the National Archaeological institute and museum.
