Preserving the Past and Building the Future – a Joint Perspective of a Common History

On the 1st. and 2nd. of June 2007 the German and French Embassies in Bulgaria, represented by the cultural attache Mr. Ferdinand von Weyhe and the cooperation councellor Mrs. Catherine Suard, organized together with the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (DVV International), represented by Ms. Vanya Ivanova - Project manager of the History Project at DVV International an academic event dedicated to the motto “Preserving the past and building the future – a joint perspective of a common history”. The event was officially opened by welcome speeches of the president of the Republic of Bulgaria – Mr. Georgi Parvanov, the German ambassador Mr. Michael Geier, the French Chargé d’Affaires (Premier Conseiller) Mr. Cyrille Baumgartner and the deputy rector of the university in Sofia “St. Climent Ohridski” Mr. Georgi Bakalov.

The colloquium’s main aim was to discuss the joint initiative of German and French historians - the German-French History Textbook “Histoire/Geschichte”, presented by one of the French authors Mr. Guillaume Le Quintrec, also through the perspective of Balkan history and pedagogic experts, teachers, university lectures and students from the German and French high schools.
