The Balkan Young Historians Forum
24 - 29 April 2007

The beautiful historical city of Veliko Tarnovo hosted the Balkan Young Historians Forum from 24th to 29th of April. The uniqueness of the Forum was because it created space for more than 70 young pupils and their teachers to work together, exchange knowledge and good practices and present their joint work to their colleagues, coming from eight countries in the region: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Romania and Turkey.

Two separate programs were running simultaneously, one for the teachers from the region (with open classes in several schools and study visits in the local governance) and another for the pupils (with more interactive games to stimulate their work together). The two programs were gathered during the last two days of the Forum when experts and pupils had the chance to present their researches on the topic of “Female and Male Spaces on the Balkans”, beside the presentations of good practices of history teaching in the region. The History Project of DVV-International was also presented with focus on the Oral History method that is a useful tool for creating enjoyable process of learning and teaching about the recent history. The method was used from some of the teachers who were trained within the frame of the History project activities.

The Forum was organized by the Regional Inspectorate of Education in Veliko Tarnovo, the University of Veliko Tarnovo , the Humanitarian High School “St. St. Kiril and Methodius” and the association “Children and Future”, with the financial support of Program “Youth” of the European Commission, the Municipality and Local governance of Veliko Tarnovo and DVV-International.
